I am a second generation British Asian woman (pronouns she/her) of Indian and East African descent, from both Hindu and Muslim traditions.
I live and work and was born and bred in London.
I am a Consultant Paediatrician. I specialise in community child health which encompasses child development, social paediatrics and child public health. It is also a role that spans the traditional boundaries of physical and mental health.
I have a portfolio career. I work in a local NHS community clinic, a regional NHS service and a small, integrated private physical and mental health clinic.
I am a clinician educator - I have a masters degree in medical education.
I am a poet, playwright and cultural worker using socially engaged performative practice. I am currently on a Masters programme in Applied Theatre at the University of East London.
I am a neurodivergent person and parent.
I am complex.
I spend a lot of time in that alleyway between homes.
In my cultural work I aspire to certain values - to ensure the conversation is more likely to lead to connection and change.
Daring to look beyond the boundaries of what we know and what we have always known, towards something new and uncertain.
Making space for respectful listening and expressing, so conversation is a two-way street.
Sensitivity to people's circumstances. Remembering to situate ourselves and others within our contexts.
Playful spaces need to feel safe. There is a balance of being able to express ourselves freely and voluntarily without judgement and ensuring those around us are not hurt or traumatised by what is expressed.
